Progressive Movement USA – Network Analysis
FAS.research, San Francisco
2006
Project Description:
The network visualization directs our view to the peaks of the progressive
movement landscape in the US. If enterprises form a peak with others this
must not necessarily reflect their influence on politics in general. It
just shows that there are strong and dense ties between these enterprises
forming the peak and more loose ties to those enterprises surrounding them.
Many peaks suggest a rich variety of interests and formation of networks
around these interests. Our research interest is ongoing. We intend to
grow our database. This analysis is based on a network of 7531 people and
345 enterprises.
Legend:
Nodes represent institutions of the progressive and liberal landscape in
the US. The larger the node, the more influential the enterprise is within
this network. Red nodes represent the peaks. Grey Nodes represent semiperipheral
and peripheral enterprises. If enterprise A and enterprise B share a mutual
director, trustee, advisor or chief editor on their boards, they are linked
through a line. The thicker the line, the more people with any such functions
are shared.
